What to Do this Weekend

As a Realtor, my job is not only to help you buy & sell real estate, but to keep you informed on what’s going on in our community.

Looking for something fun & interesting to do in our area over the weekend?  Here are a couple of suggestions.  There’s a little something for everyone.

Friday, February 10  8:00 PM

In the mood for some foot stomping, knee slapping music?  THE DUHKs will be at the Progress Energy Center – Fletcher Theater at 8:00 PM.  Their music has been described as a fusion of traditional bluegrass, folk rock, Afro-Cuban jazz, Celtic, gospel & soul.  Certainly sounds eclectic, but they say it gives them creative freedom to explore the full range of roots music from around the globe.  They have won numerous awards, including a Grammy nomination in 2006 for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Group or Duo.  For information, contact Phyllis Buffaloe 919-664-8302.  Tickets & additional information is available at:  www.pinecone.org

Saturday, February 11   2:00 – 4:00 PM

Come on out to the Halle Cultural Arts Center in downtown Apex for HOOPLA!  http://www.apexnc.org/halle#Events  What is all the HOOPLA?  It is a hula hoop contest for hoopers of all ages & levels of expertise.  A great way for families to come in from the cold, get a little exercise & have fun.  Bring your own hoop if you have one.  There will be prizes, cupcakes, lemonade, & it’s FREE!  Ira David Wood of the Raleigh Theater in the Park will be there to judge the hoopers & give out the prizes.  This is also the launch party for the book, “Peggy Noodle, Hula Hoop Queen”.  Apex resident & author, Dolly Dozier (www.DollyDozier.com) and the illustrator, Monica Wyrick will be on hand for a reading and to sign books.

Saturday, February 11   6:00 – 10 PM

For all you oenophiles --  Adams Vineyards in Willow Spring www.adamsvineyards.com is holding a Valentine’s Dinner & Dancing from 6 to 10 PM.  Featuring dinner, live music by the Carolina Island Boys and dancing this certainly sounds like it would be fun.  Cost is very reasonable:  $35/person - $60/couple.  Reservations are required.  Call Joyce Adams at 919-567-1010 for more information.

These are just a few of the many things to do right here in our own backyard!  Know of something else going on that you would like to share – please post in the comments section below
